Our family toured just about every facility in the Fremont area that would accept someone with a dementia diagnosis. When we got to Aegis, it was immediately our first choice… The entire staff is what makes this a special place—they all knew [my mother’s] name by the first day. The activities staff encourages each resident to participate and makes special accommodations so they feel welcomed. Their energy, creativeness, intuitiveness, and patience is amazing to witness. There is seldom a moment without an event, so no one has time to be bored or depressed.
Delicious and varied meals are served daily in a lovely dining room (in fact, the whole facility and gardens are lovely), with snacks and hydration in between. Each resident has a different level of care needed, but they are very accepting of each other. In our situation, Mom has a delightful assistant who helps her bathe and choose clothes every morning. She also had someone to escort her to activities and meals, but that wasn’t necessary after the first week. She didn’t want to miss anything!
